CB Bar again!
Us and our favorite popsicles!
When Lauren lost her shoe :(
We had a great weekend! Lauren, Maria and Travis all went out Friday night to CB Bar again with a bunch of agency people and had a really fun time. Lauren danced on the bar and then they lit it on fire!!! TOTAL fire hazard but whatever - people here don't seem primarily concerned with safety - fun is definitely the top priority.
Saturday was spent recovering from Friday night, doing laundry and going grocery shopping. Apparently you still have to do errands in other countries too. Boooooooo. Lauren also got some penicillin at a nearby drugstore - in Brazil you don't need a prescription to buy many drugs that require one in the States (i.e. penicillin and birth control). Saturday night we went out to dinner for sushi. It was funny because usually ordering sushi in the States is confusing - let alone in Brazil! We had no idea what any of the rolls were - it was definitely an adventure in itself! We got "cha" (tea) and a few plates of sushi - followed up by a delicious popsicle. We've become obsessed with this brand of popsicles here (I forget the name) - but they are made with real fruit and are so delicious!!!
Sunday was a lot of fun! Monica took the four of us to the Sao Paolo zoo and we all had a great time. The weather was also GORGEOUS! It was sunny most of the day and I think I got a little color (yippee). We saw some ridiculous animals a the zoo - my personal favorites were the "macacos" (the monkeys) - specifically I liked the chimpanzees. They were just so cuddly and cute - sharing bananas and wrestling around. I also liked the "Rhinoceros Hornbill" - a rare bird with 2 beaks that I had never seen or heard of before.
One of the funniest parts of the day happened on the Metro ride back home. We were getting off the train and Monica accidentally knocked off Lauren's flipflop! It fell down the gap between the train and the platform, and we had to get a Metro worker to turn off the electrical current on the tracks, get a ladder and go down to retrieve her fallen shoe. We kept calling Lauren "Cinderella." This little interaction was hilarious to me because NO ONE in the States would have helped get the shoe back. I could just picture the workers in the States saying "Too bad, lady. We can't go down and get that for you."
Overall, it was both an exciting and relaxing weekend (if that is even possible).
